Question by goldmoderncoins: I purchased several 2007 W Buffalo Coins - How long until I can break even selling them?
I purchased eight 2007 W Gold Buffalo Proof Coins @ the issue price of 5 each. Each coin was graded PF69 DCAM by PCGS (First Strikes). I can't believe I didn't get a single PF70...what good luck I noticed on eBay that the PF69 (even the first strikes) are only selling for 9 - 9 each right now - Does anyone know what my best bet is, to sell them at a loss now & reinvest the money or hold them? Also, how long should I hold the coins? Any idea how long until these coins might shoot up above 5 per coin on the auction block? (I noticed several local dealers already have their coins priced at 0 or 0). Thanks in advance for any advice.

Question by PatriciaWOWW: What would a 50$ Gold Buffalo Tribute Proof be worth in 10 or 20 years?
Is it worth to buy a few? Seems like it may be worth it long term. But in 2010, this coin is really worth 1$. Doing the math - The weight of one coin is 31mgs. 1 ounce = 28349mgs. So this means that one coin is 1/1000th of an ounce. If Gold is 1000$ per Ounce. Is my math right?
Best answer:
Answer by sassy25 Depends on the price of goal at the time. If you buy now when gold is high you could lose big in 10 yrs. You would have to time the commodities market.

Question by T C: 2010 Gold Buffalo tribute proof?
There is an ad running on TV by National Collectors advertising the 2010 Gold Buffalo tribute proof. It is a .9999 24 kt gold plated bronze piece. It is 31mgs of 24 kt gold over a bronze coin. It appears to be replica of an authentic 24 kt gold US Mint coin previously offered by the US Mint. The purchase price is .95 plus S&H.Are there any coin collectors out there that know the skinny on this deal. Is it a scam as it appears?
Best answer:
Answer by rtfm I have a small collection of old coins. In my experience, anything that's "gold plated" is just a gimmick and doesn't appreciate in value.

Question by YA! YA!: What the actual value of the American Buffalo Gold coin? Since its not solid gold?
Best answer:
Answer by I. B. Zoxx Where are you getting your information? The American Buffalo gold coin sold by the US Mint is indeed .9999 pure gold.
American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coins are the first .9999 fine 24-karat gold coins ever struck by the United States Mint and offered for sale through a network of Authorized Purchasers. These gold coins are available to members of the public seeking a simple and tangible means to own and invest in 24-karat gold in the form of legal tender coins whose content and purity is guaranteed by the United States Government.
American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coins. Each coin contains one ounce of .9999 fine, 24-karat gold and is presented in an elegant hardwood box with a matte finish and a faux leather inset, and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the Director of the United States Mint.
As far as value goes: most dealers will buy them for around 95% of spot and sell them for around 105% of spot.

Best answer:
Answer by verique_phinigel I see it as black myself, but when doing something of this nature, it would always be best to save the image as a PNG and then set the background as transparent. This way your web color will always come through.

Question by Kramsor: American Buffalo Gold coin dimensions?
Hello there,
I have this little problem:
The American Buffalo Gold coin is said to measure 32.7 mm by 2.95 mm (according to the US mint and Wikipedia). It is also made of 24 kt Gold (.9999 purity). However, when worked out mathematically, it results that either these coins have a higher gold content than 1 troy ounce 31.1035 grams (at the given diameter and thickness / height).
Here's how I worked it out:
Volume = Pi x R x R x H
Therefore, Vol. = 3.142 x 1.635 cm x 1.635 cm x 0.295
Answer = 2.4775 cubic cm (or ML)
The density of Gold is 19.32 grams / CC;
Therefore, 2.4775 cc x 19.32 g = 47.86 grams OR 1.53873473 Troy oz. (as opposed to 1 troy ounce, as it is supposed to weigh).
So, as a bottom line: Either they use something else apart from the gold (something denser / "heavier" than gold) or their dimensions are wrong OR they're giving 1/2 ounce of gold for free (which is very unlikely)!
I will appreciate if anyone can illuminate me about this matter!
Thanks a lot,
Kramsor

Answer by getfreducated They are not perfect cylinders. (You are using the height of the edge of the coin as if it were this thickness everywhere...sadly it ain't so). So to find the volume, you must submerge then in water and find out how much liquid they displace.
Darn! And if you were right, I was going to go buy every one I could find!
Again, I don't know how else to explain it (nor do I understand why there are more answers to this)...coins are not cylinders. They are tiny little works of art whose deminsions are not able to be listed as simple diameters and heights. The government did not "screw up" and put any more "pure" gold in than they said. I agree with the fellow below...Go ahead ask a coin dealer and if they think you are right, I have a TON of gold coins I'd like to sell them by "volume".
-Fred

Question by justaguy23456: What is the physical size of a one ounce gold bar and a one hundred ounce silver bar?
What is the typical size (height, width, and length) of the gold and silver bullion that people buy as an investment.
Best answer:
Answer by acablue Surely, you must have seen the size of a Krugerrand, or an American Double Eagle which contain 1 ounce of pure gold. They are about the size of an old American Silver Dollar. So, multiply that by 100 for a silver bar? The densities are not that different.
Put another way, the bar will weigh 100 ounces, or about 6 pounds. That is not a very big package.

Question by Mr. So Krates: Which is a better coin for collecting?
Which would you rather have? This is a gift for my mother who loves coin collecting.
A 2008 bald eagle silver dollar proof: Only ~, but only 500,000 are to be produced
A 2008 American buffalo proof coin: ~0 but no statement of limiting the production
Both are official U.S. coins from the U.S. mint.
Best answer:
Answer by Taiping The 2008 bald eagle coin is a commemorative coin while the 2008 American Buffalo coin is a gold bullion coin and for 0 it must be the 1/10 of an ounce. You may find that the gold buffalo will have the lowest mintage. Looking at the American gold eagle proof issues of 1/10 oz. only 17,546 2005 proofs were made and 15,636 2004 proofs were made. The most proofs made from what books I have is 143,681 from the first year 1988. Not all mintage figures for 2006-2007 have been released yet. I am a numismatist and collect the old historic coins, so would have to take the Bald Eagle for it's historic value but the gold coin would be the best investment.
